Panacea Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Announces Appointment of New Board Member

ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BW HealthWire)--Sept. 6, 2000--Panacea Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is pleased to announce that Mehdi Hatamian, Ph.D. has been appointed to the Company's Board of Directors.

Dr. Hatamian received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Arya-Mehr University of Technology in Tehran, Iran and a M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

From 1978 to 1982, Dr. Hatamian worked for NASA's Space Shuttle program, developing hardware and software designs to support in-flight biomedical experiments. From 1982 to 1991, he was a member of the Visual Communications Research and the VLSI Systems Research departments of Bell Laboratories, where he became a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in 1988. From 1991 to 1996, he was Vice President of Technology at Silicon Design Experts, Inc., a company he co-founded.

In 1996, Dr. Hatamian joined Broadcom Corporation as the Director of DSP Microelectronics Technology. Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM - news) is a provider of highly integrated silicon solutions that enable broadband digital transmission of voice, video, and data to and throughout the home and within the business enterprise. Dr. Hatamian's areas of expertise are high-speed VLSI signal processing, image processing, high temperature superconductors, full-custom and low power circuit and architecture design, adaptive filtering, high-density deep sub-micron CMOS design, and biomedical electronics.

Dr. Hatamian has published nearly 50 papers in his areas of expertise and holds 10 issued patents with several patents pending. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) whose technical objectives center on advancing the theory and practice of electrical engineering, electronics, computer engineering, and computer science. He has participated in numerous national and international conferences and other professional activities in his field as an organizer, session chair, panelist, invited lecturer, and moderator.
