Zhi-Gang Jiang, M.D., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Director, Neurodegenerative Diseases

Dr. Jiang is the Director of the Neurodegenerative Diseases Program; he joined the Company in 2002. Dr. Jiang previously held an Acting Director position at the China Rehabilitation Research Center, where he carried out clinical research on paraplegia and established the Center's Laboratory of Cell Biology. Prior to joining Panacea Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Jiang conducted research in oncology and neuroscience at Ohio State University and the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Jiang's scientific research and leadership have led to the development of a number of very promising neuroprotective compounds for the Company. He has authored numerous publications, and is an inventor on over a dozen patents pending worldwide. Most recently, his research was lauded as "important in the continued progress in the development of new therapies for stroke" (Nature Review Neuroscience, 7:173, 2006, and Nature Review Drug Discovery, 5:187, 2006).

Dr. Jiang has served on the International Panel of Expert Referees for the New Zealand Neurology Foundation, as an Expert Referee for the DRTC Pilot/Feasibility Grant program at Michigan State University, and as a member of the General Council at University of Glasgow. He now serves as an Editor for the journal, Frontiers in Biosciences, and is a grant reviewer for the Alzheimer's Association and National Natural Foundation of China.

Dr. Jiang received his M.Sc. and M.D. degrees from Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences in Changchun, China, and he was awarded his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Institute of Medicine at the University of Glasgow, U.K.
